CD REVIEW: The Telestials “I Can Call Jesus”

THE TELESTIALS
I Can Call Jesus

Average Song Ratings: 3.3 / 5 Stars
Overall Album Rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars

The Telestials have been singing longer than I’ve been around.? The group got their start in the early 1960’s as a ladies trio know as the Harmony Trio.? Normally, I wouldn’t include this much historical information, but the following was too interesting to pass up.

In about 1960, A group went to Atlanta, GA to record their first LP album. They were known as the “Harmony Trio” but decided to change their name to the “Celestials,” notice the “C” instead of “T,” well the printers didn’t. And when the albums came back, all one thousand of them, a printing error had changed the name to the Telestials. I am sure they could have sent them back but, they didn’t. And now you know where the name came from. (SOURCE)

I Can Call Jesus is the latest installment in the groups discography and it is comprised of mostly cover tunes of previously recorded SG tunes mixed with some original material.? The album begins with a country flavored version of “I Wanna Go There”.? Producer Michael Sykes gives the listener many different feels on this CD, from P&W to Country to pure Southern Gospel.? I believe there will be something on this new project that each listener will enjoy, but at the same time, there will be tracks skipped.

Song List for I Can Call Jesus:

  1. I Wanna Go There
  2. Everything
  3. One Way Flight
  4. No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus
  5. Free
  6. My Redeemer Is Faithful And True
  7. Oh What A Savior, What A Friend
  8. I Can Call Jesus
  9. Through It All
  10. Redeemed

Overall, the musical production is top notch with quality vocals throughout.? The various styles may put off some listeners who are die-hard SG, but if you are open to different musical styles, then you should enjoy this new project.

This album can be purchased directly from the Telestials here.

Southern Gospel music by Hannah Montana

Daniel Mount breaks the news that Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” will be released to Southern Gospel radio by promoter Rick Hendrix.? Since Daniel had never really heard her sing before,? I thought I’d include the? video of? her new single.

HisSong is now a quartet with the addition of Christian Davis!

Although they are billing this as a once a month concert event, HisSong just finished a new project with Christian Davis singing bass.?

For all the ones who are asking if HisSong is going Quartet the answer is NO but we are going to do at least 1 concert a month as a Quartet. The name of the tour is Christian Brothers Featuring HisSong & Christian Davis. If you have ever wondered how HisSong would sound with a Bass singer, now is your time by purchasing the new CD once it’s released in March. Our first Quartet Christian Brothers Tour will take place Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in Atkinson, Wisconsin at Fireside Theater. All the information is listed below and our new Quartet CD will be available at the concert and also on our website. The new CD is going to have old Hymns songs and original songs. This will be a CD that you don’t want to be without. I will be keeping you posted. (from Dennis Humphries email newsletter)

Add this new CD to my must purchase list for 2009…This should be a fantastic group!
