Today’s Music Playlist :: 8/26/09

1. Cheer The Weary Traveler (The Kingsmen from Missing People) – This is a new recording of the old convention song.? The Kingsmen keep their roots, as evidenced here, while also branching out a little farther on their new release from Horizon Records.

2. He Will Remember Me (Archie Watkins from Pouring Out Blessings) – This Lance Carpenter tune from Archie Watkins is his first solo release since retiring from The Inspirations.

3. I Heard About A Stone (Kevin Spencer Family from Some Dawning) – This is a Southern Gospel classic from the Kevin Spencer Family.? This was one of the family’s biggest songs.

4. Roll Back River Jordan (Mark Trammell Trio from Love To Tell The Story) – From the debut project of the group, this was one of my favorites from the album.? It was also the very first song that I heard live from the group at one of their debut concerts.? It’s a good one.

5. Some Of These Days (Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver from Gospel Parade) – Barry Scott shows his piano prowess on this “Bluegrass” tune.? This entire album is a gem, but this song really stands out on the project.

6. This World Is Not My Home (Daybreak Quartet from Hymns) – Another song with great piano accompaniment.? ? With reviews of the group here, here & here, I felt there was nothing left to say in a review.? It’s a great project from an up and coming group.

CD Review: The Inspirations – “The Son Came Down”

The Inspirations
The Son Came Down

My rating: 5 stars out of 5

Produced by: Martin Cook & Jeff Collins
Label: Horizon Records
Website:
www.TheInspirations.com

This new release from The Inspirations unveils a new lineup which includes new lead singer, David Ragan, and new tenor, Dallas Rogers.? For those of you Inspirations fans with reservations about the new lineup, rest assured that the future of The Inspirations is in good hands.? The new group not only carries the tradition of the Inspirations’ past, they also bring a fresh sound to the group.

Since I’ve picked up this project, I seem to listen to it more than anything else right now.? With tracks like “Dealing With Gold”, “Crown Him King”, & the classic “Thank God I’ve Made It”, this project is at the top of my list of new releases in 2009.? Baritone Melton Campbell continues to be one of the smoothest baritones in Southern Gospel and Mike Holcombe is still the best bass singer on the road today.

The Son Came Down makes me very excited about future projects from the Inspirations.? I highly recommend this to any fan of gospel music.? I believe you will be quite surprised, even if you weren’t a fan of the group before.

HisSong “That’s When God Steps In”

Another great song from one of SG’s greatest travelers, Diana Brantley of www.SGConcerts.com.

Listen to clips of Guy Penrod’s new project

Before you get too excited, it’s a country project, not gospel.? But Guy still has one of the best voices to come along and it’s worth the listen.
