The Playlist #5: The Second Coming

One of the greatest topics for gospel songs is that Blessed Hope of the believer, the return of Jesus Christ.  Eschatology is not the easiest portion of doctrine, and by extension, there are some gospel songs that get Biblical events a little bit mixed up.  But the main point is there: that Jesus Christ is coming again, as He promised, to take the Church with him to heaven.  For the child of God, this will be the end of all trouble and suffering, and the beginning of blissful eternity.  Why not write a song about it?

Here is an 80-minute long mix CD of some of my favorites.  What are yours?

“The Rest Of The Story” by Barry Rowland & Deliverance… from their Prior To A Prayer cd… : )

    1. I’ll have to pull that one out and give it a listen later. It doesn’t ring a bell right now.

I prefer “It’s Almost Over” by the Cathedrals, but Trammell’s is good. A couple that quickly came to mind are both by the Oak Ridge Boys. The first is the live version of “King Jesus” and one or maybe both live versions of “Jesus Is Coming Soon” (one is originally from “Thanks” and the other from “Performance”). To be continued. 🙂

  1. Lanny Wolfe had a good one called “The Sounds of His Coming,” but it’s hard to find a good professional recording of it. I’ve often thought the Collingsworth ladies’ trio should take it up.
