I uploaded a brand new site for Larry’s Studio today.? Check it out here: www.LarrysStudio.com
This is the studio where my family, The Edwards Family, records.? Larry Spears’ owns the studio and is a dear friend to my family.? You can hear some of his work on the new site.? I especially like his rendition of “Ghost Riders In The Sky.”? Larry is an extraordinary musician, as you can enjoy in his? version of the old country tune.

1. There’s A Landfrom The Anchormen‘s Spirit Live video (1995)
This is a song from what I consider one of the very best lineups the Anchormen Quartet ever had.? They were Brian Routh (Tenor), Dale Forbes (Lead), Terry Carter (Baritone) & Jeff Chapman (Bass).? They let Brian showboat a little on this track and it is well worth the listen.? This recording was only released on VHS.
2. What Will My Cross Testifyfrom The Rowlands‘ What Will My Cross Testify CD (2009)
This song was penned by Kyla Rowland and helps backup my earlier claim that Ron Martin is one of the finest vocalists in Southern Gospel music today.
3. Coming Out Of The Wildernessfrom The Wilburns’ Sing It cassette (1988)
This is the original recording of the song by The Wilburns that was later redone by the group around 2003.? Jonathan Wilburn was the tenor singer for his family and has the lead vocals on this track and gives us a glimpse of what Gold City saw in him as a lead singer.
I’m trying this out for now and I am looking for some input.? Right now I have one song cued up and set to autoplay.? I would like to hear from you.? Do you like a music player?? Are you having any issues getting it to play?? Do you like it?? Hate it?? Could care less?? Need? a vacation :-)?!?!?
Seriously, I am trying to implement a new feature and would love your feedback….thanks!
Yesterday in an announcement from Mark Trammell, we were told that Eric Phillips is leaving the Mark Trammell Trio to persue a career in law enforcement.
It is with bittersweet emotion that we announce the soon departure of our award winning tenor Eric Phillips.? Eric has served this ministry with integrity and honor since our very beginning seven years ago.? Bitter, because I view him as a second son and cherish the bond and relationship God has allow us to have for these years.? Sweet, because we firmly believe that God has a plan for all of us as we move forward to the next phase of our lives.? Eric has been praying with careful consideration about this move for a number of months and feels confident that his return to Law Enforcement is what is best for he and his family.? Please join us in praying for God’s perfect will for both Eric and this ministry.? His departure will take place sometime mid to late summer depending on our finding a suitable replacement and his re-instatement to active duty as a police officer.? As Eric stated to me, “I have two passions.? One is singing, and the other is Law Enforcement.? I have enjoyed my days with MTT and have enjoyed the love of gospel music fans around the world.? But I am convinced this is the right timing for this change.”?
Anyone interested in auditioning for the tenor position should send a brief resume along with a sample tape or CD to Mark Trammell Trio/audition/PO Box 588/Gadsden, AL/35902. We will in turn listen and then contact those we feel to be the individuals most likely to fit our style, etc.? ? Auditions will begin just after fathers day as the group will be on an eight day tour and then vacation immediately following.? If you wish to send cards of encouragement to Eric, Lauren, Carley, and Blake, send them to Eric Phillips / c/o Mark Trammell Trio/PO Box 588/Gadsden, AL 35902.? I smile when reminded that the only thing that doesn’t change is Jesus.? In order for us to grow as Christians, change must take place.? We wish Eric and his family God’s speed in the days ahead.
In HIS service,
Mark Trammell
This leaves both Gold City and the Mark Trammell Trio in search of a new tenor.? Pray that God will send the right people to fill both vacated spots.
Not only am I a fan of Southern Gospel music, but I also have a deep love and respect for Bluegrass gospel.? It’s not often that I will review a bluegrass project, but this one has certainly caught my ears.?
The song selections on this project? are mainly public domain with a couple of current songs.? The instrumentations on this hymns project? are very well done and the vocals are good, although sometimes a little nasal (which is sort of expected on Bluegrass projects), but the arrangements of the songs are absolutely spectacular.? ?
PMRR’s version of “I Bowed On My Knees And Cried Holy” takes the song in a brand new direction with an upbeat, jazzy tempo and sound and it is one of the best takes on the song that I have ever heard.?
Other standout songs from this project include the a cappela number, “Run On,”? the old Spencers tune, “Let’s Meet By The River”, and “Getting Ready To Leave This World”.? ? Here is a video of them singing “Run On”:
Although this group is primarily known in the bluegrass genre, this first gospel release from Cody Shuler is a wonderful introduction for the group into the gospel scene.
This project is available direct from the artist or downloadable from iTunes or Amazon.com.? CLICK HERE to hear sound clips from the entire project.
