Thank You to all who take the time to read. I’m still surprised and honored by the number of hits I receive. Although I’m sure they are nothing like the ‘bigger’ blogs (www.averyfineline.com, www.musicscribe.com, www.southerngospelblog.com), to me it’s always shocking to see the actual results.
For all of you number crunchers, here are the statistics for my first year:
Looking back on the year, it has been quite eventful and wonderful for me personally. I hope the coming year is even better. When I started this site, I seemed to have much more free time to post than I do now. I am grateful and thankful that I have plenty of work to keep me busy, but I miss being able to post on an almost daily basis. God has blessed me with 2 kids, 2 businesses, traveling part-time with 2 different Southern Gospel groups, plus a full-time job on top of that, so it’s hard to find the time to be able to actually sit down and write something. I’m not complaining at all, but I sure miss quiet time.
Again, thank you for a great first year and for taking your precious time to read what I have to say!
This one is easier than I expected it to be. The essential piece is that you need a sound clip of 30 seconds or less. You can either use Audacity, PolderbitS or other editing software to chop up a full song or you can simply go to a bestbuy.com or other site that has 30 second preview clips that they allow you to download. How you get the 30 second clip saved to your computer is irrelevent, the next step is the important one.
Every Verizon Wireless number gets two email addresses generated automatically; “your 10 digit phone number @vtext.com” and “your 10 digit phone number @vzwpix.com” the difference of course being one is for email and one is for pix/flix messages. This allows you to email and picture or text message right to someone’s phone which could probably be in a seperate tips section itself but i’ll combine them in the interest of saving space.
What you need to do is go on your home email, whatever it is and address an email to your ten digit phone number @vzwpix.com (example 7275555123@vzwpix.com). Next, select the button to add an attachment and select your 30 second clip (must be in MIDI or mp3 format). Send the pix message.
It will take several minutes for your message to reach the phone. I’ve had a couple take up to 12 hours to arrive in my phone’s inbox.
Here is the only tricky part. If your phone has a memory card in it, remove it before you read the pix message.
When the message comes through, view it. It should play the song on your phone. Press the options button and elect to save music/sound or whatever similar option your phone may have. This is why taking out the card is important. At this step it will try as a default to save the clip to your card. If it saves to your card, you can not set it as a ringtone. If you remove the card it needs to save to the phone to complete the request and saves the 30 second clip in “MY SOUNDS” folder.
Finally, go to my sounds folder, select the sound you just sent yourself, then press option -> set as -> ringtone. Thats it! You are set.
I have tried this on my RAZR V3M and know it works. Several of my friends have made this work on other phone models as well. Currently, my ringtone is “I Have Not Forgotten” by the Inspirations, but previously I had “God Handled It All” by Gold City. Both sound great. Just be sure when you edit your ringtone to not have the volume level too high because the sound gets distorted easily on a cell phone tiny speaker.
Gold City has announced the resignation of Jonathan Wilburn. Jonathan has served as Gold City’s lead singer for the past 12 years.
“After much prayer I have decided to resign my position with Gold City,” says Wilburn. “I can never truly express the depth of my gratitude to the Riley family-Tim, Barbara, Danny and my precious friend, Doug-for the opportunity of a lifetime. They have not treated me as an employee but like a part of their family.
‘You, the fans, have supported me from the beginning and my heart will always be overwhelmed at the reception you gave me from the very first night I took the stage with this wonderful group. I believe God has great things in store for this great bunch of guys. Steve, Aaron, Josh, Kyle and Ed are some of my dearest friends. I can say with an honest and pure heart that I love them as brothers.
“Through the years the road has taken a heavy toll on my family and me. Please pray for me as I move on to another chapter of my life. At this present time I have no plans; I just need God to direct me as He did in 1996 when He spoke to my heart about coming to Gadsden to sing with America’s No. 1 quartet.
“Pray for these guys as they move forward in the ministry. I love them and I love you.”
“Jonathan is one of my dearest friends,” says Daniel Riley, ” and it’s been my privilege to have traveled with him for the past 12 years. We have been through many ups and downs over the years and have become brothers as members of Gold City. As much as I would love for him to be here forever, I realize that change is inevitable for all of us from time to time. We all wish him the best as he pursues a new direction.”
Stepping into the lead position is Bruce Taliaferro, a Gadsden, Ala., native. “Bruce is an amazing talent and one of my best friends,” states Riley. “He has filled in for both Jonathan and me on several occasions and is a great fit for Gold City. I am looking forward to introducing him to our many friends across the country.”

Looks like the SINGING NEWS has a confirmation from Danny Riley. They have announced that an official, joint announcement will come on Monday.
Jonathon, you will be missed as the front man for Gold City. It’s hard to imagine the group without you, but we know that change is inevitable, so I wish the best for both Jonathon and the Gold City Quartet!
