I would like to take the opportunity today to wish a happy birthday to, in my opinion, the greatest baritone in the history of gospel music, and, more importantly, my personal gospel music hero. In case you hadn’t noticed, that person is Mark Trammell. I don’t think I’m alone, either, because he was voted by you as your favorite baritone singer in our Quartet Madness competition. Down through the years, even when surrounded by some of the giants of southern gospel music, Mark has blazed his own trail as the epitome of class, and has a spotless testimony of service to Christ through gospel music.
I will also (perhaps selfishly) take this opportunity to invite you to my church, Alpine Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, on Saturday June 4th at 7 PM. The Mark Trammell Quartet, for the very first time, will be our guests for our 55th Homecoming Singing. I have only seen them live twice, and needless to say, we are absolutely thrilled to be hosting these fine singers and men for a night of old-fashioned worship and gospel music. Admission is free, with a love offering collected, so come on out if you live in the area. Or if you don’t live in the area, I’m sure it will be worth the drive! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, and I will help you out in any way I can.
I would have a very difficult time picking out a favorite Mark Trammell feature (I have 150 of them in my collection), but this might be my favorite. “Go ahead, sister!” Happy Birthday, Mark, from all of us at Southern Gospel Critique!
