My friend and fellow blogger, David Bruce Murray (www.musicscribe.com) posted this video from Professor Dean Adkins here and it was too good not to share with you.
This is a clip of Lee Roy Abernathy and Shorty Bradford – The Happy Two. They advertised themselves as the world’s greatest two man quartet. I know several of you are into classic groups and this is simply amazing! Enjoy.
Troy Peach will be filling the baritone position. Troy has been with our group for the past year as one of our sound techs and bus drivers. He also filled in for Nick back in December while Nick was off for his wedding and done a great job. Troy is no stranger to singing as you may remember him with Jeff and Sheri Steele and later his own group First Love. We have known Troy for years and have watched him develop into a hard working young man. With the economic situation right now going on in not only gospel music but the whole country, we feel like this is the thing to do, this is not taking away from the fact that Troy is a great singer and we have traveled with him and we know his life. He is so easy to get a long with and that counts for a lot when you travel on a 45 foot bus four days out of the week and sometimes more. Troy has a heart and passion for not only our music, but gospel music as a whole and he wants to do his part to make it all it can be. He is already a part of our “family” so now we have just tied him in even more! Troy is so excited about being able to sing again and we are excited to have him sing with us. Troy’s wife Katy is in full support of Troy and his new position with our group. Katy is enjoying being able to stay home with their 3 year old twin boys Clayton and Shelton while they are little. It has been over- whelming at the emails we have received from people all across the United States who love Troy and have ask us to please give him the position. This shows us that Troy has made a lot of friends during his time in gospel music that love him, his singing and his humble attitude. We feel God placed Troy under our noses for this purpose.
JK will still hold his position down as the main sound tech now along with running our multi- media when available. JK said he needed a lot of prayers to do two or three things at one time. But, we know he can get the job done!!
In an official announcement today from the Perrys we learn that Nick Trammell is leaving the group. He states:
“I would like to thank all of those who have supported and loved me over the past two-and-a-half years,” says Nick. “I don’t feel that I am done in Southern Gospel music, nor in ministry. But for now, I feel God is moving me to a new chapter in my life. I don’t know what is to come but I believe stepping out in faith is what I need to do to be shown what is next.
“I would like to thank Tracy, Libbi and all of those on the Perrys’ bus for giving me a chance and taking me in as family. I wish them God’s best in the future. Please continue to pray for Jessica and I as we seek God’s will for whatever it is that God has in store for us. We love you all.”
Troy Peach will be the interim baritone until a replacement has been announced.
West Court Baptist Church in Marion, NC is having revival meetings every night this week (2/16-2/20) at 7 PM. Bro. Ross Lewis invites everyone to attend. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr. will be preaching everynight and my family will be singing on Friday night.
If you plan to attend, you may want to arrive early as seating and parking get taken early. The church is quite large, but it was filled last night and there will most likely be larger crowds later in the week.
If you can’t attend, please pray that revival will breakout and spread like wildfire throughout the community and all of the surrounding areas.
In anannouncement from the McKameys this evening, Carol Woodard has announced that she is retiring from the road. Ruben & Peg’s other daughter, Sheryl Farris, will be stepping in to fill Carol’s shoes. Sheryl previously traveled with the group from 1972-1983, but that was before the McKamey’s rise one of the most popular groups in Southern Gospel music. She should be able to step right in and continue on with the McKamey’s name
God bless you Carol in your retirement. Thank you for your years of dedication and service to the ministry! You will be missed!!!

The Telestials have been singing longer than I’ve been around. The group got their start in the early 1960’s as a ladies trio know as the Harmony Trio. Normally, I wouldn’t include this much historical information, but the following was too interesting to pass up.
In about 1960, A group went to Atlanta, GA to record their first LP album. They were known as the “Harmony Trio” but decided to change their name to the “Celestials,” notice the “C” instead of “T,” well the printers didn’t. And when the albums came back, all one thousand of them, a printing error had changed the name to the Telestials. I am sure they could have sent them back but, they didn’t. And now you know where the name came from. (SOURCE)
I Can Call Jesus is the latest installment in the groups discography and it is comprised of mostly cover tunes of previously recorded SG tunes mixed with some original material. The album begins with a country flavored version of “I Wanna Go There”. Producer Michael Sykes gives the listener many different feels on this CD, from P&W to Country to pure Southern Gospel. I believe there will be something on this new project that each listener will enjoy, but at the same time, there will be tracks skipped.
Song List for I Can Call Jesus:
I Wanna Go There
Everything
One Way Flight
No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus
Free
My Redeemer Is Faithful And True
Oh What A Savior, What A Friend
I Can Call Jesus
Through It All
Redeemed
Overall, the musical production is top notch with quality vocals throughout. The various styles may put off some listeners who are die-hard SG, but if you are open to different musical styles, then you should enjoy this new project.
This album can be purchased directly from the Telestials here.
