You have rattled my cage. There are a lot of people in this industry that has no clue who New Ground is. We sing on a full time basis and this is our source of income for our group to be able to survive. But here is my story.

Many times I've heard people discuss at the table how one will buy the CD and make the other a copy. I have to bite my toungue!!!

A while back we were singing at a church. They introduced us and when we went on stage and turned to the face the audience I noticed a jam box sitting underneath the first pew. The lady in the second pew reached down and pushed record - and recorded our entire program. Needless to say I had to "grin and bear it".

After the concert we were at our table. She walks by and even sits her jam box on our table and says, "Wish I could buy something - but I don't have the money." I responded, "You had the money to buy that high dollar jam box." My husband kicked me under the table and gave me a be nice look. She then proceeded to tell me that her children had bought her the jam box for Christmas - but I had to say just one more thing - I told her - "Well, you had the money to buy that blank tape to record our program." I guess I lost a fan that night.

There have been times that I've been asked by people - do you mind if I record this - and do you know that when I've been asked - I told them to go ahead or told them that I would give them a free CD if they could not afford it. I just don't appreciate people who take advantage of the artists.

One more story and then maybe I'll be nice for a while. Last night we were at a church. These ladies that come to see us all the time told us they had bought the DVD of us at the local concert that was held recently. I had no clue what she was talking about. She then told me - remember when we saw you at "!!!!!!!!!" (I didn't put the name of the establishment - for business reasons) - well there was a guy there that made a recording that night and they bought it for $15.00. Let me even fill you in - I told the owner that night - we are under contract with our record company - he can not record us - he said, "Oh don't worry, it's only for his personal use." Then I find out last night - he is selling it for a profit. We are booked back there in December - and as my Dad would say - "We are gonna have a come to Jesus Party before we get there."

I just don't understand - we were at a singing this past weekend with three well known groups - maybe, maybe 200 people were in attendance. While there the promoter announced that two well known groups were calling it quits and another is going solo.

I promise - we are not in it for the money - and if you call to book us - I think you will find - we are just trying to carry the word in song and be able to make our bills - not make lotsa money. It's about seeing that lost soul make the best decision ever - accepting Jesus as their personal saviour.

Pray for us - that we will always do the right thing in handling these situations!!

I too have recently purchased this kind of product off of E-Bay and have been disappointed that they are redos...I believe if the artists would take it upon themselves to re-release these older projects it would go a long way to curbing this ILLEGAL practice. I also believe there is still a good market out there for this older material

I too am curious who exactly these sellers get permission from to produce these bootlegs.
