  2. I Want My Stage To Be An Altar (The Akins)
  3. It’s Hard To Stumble On Your Knees (Primitive Quartet)
  4. Treasures Unseen Medley (Message Trio)
  5. What’s Waiting On The Other Side (Cumberland Quartet)
New Music Playlist (11/11/09) ~ In Honor of our Veterans

Thank you to all who have served to preserve our freedoms!
God Bless America!

1. Tribute To The Armed Forces (Kingdom Heirs Band) – From the bands’ 2004 Lyrics Not Included project.

2. The Soldiers Song (Squire Parsons & Friends) – This song is from Squire’s 2003 project, A Soldier’s Song.  The entire CD was in honor of our soldiers.

3. Blood Bought My Freedom (Primitive Quartet) – The Primitive Quartet recorded this song in 1993 on their 20th Anniversary project.  I believe it is the only song they’ve ever recorded with a drum track.

4. Let Freedom Ring (Kingdom Heirs) – Steve Lacey sang the lead on this great song from the Kingdom Heirs’ 1995 Forever Gold project.  Anyone know where Steve is these days?

5. The Soldier (Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet) – This song completes my tribute to our Veterans.  Couldn’t think of another SG song more fitting than this one from the OTGH’s 2000 The Lamb Is King project

Today’s Music Playlist :: 10/26/09

1. This Ole House by Carroll Roberson from Just For Him (1991)
Most SG fans are familiar with the Cathedrals version of the song, but Carroll Roberson cranks out a wonderful version that most have never heard.

2. I Stand Redeemed by Ernie Phillips from Jesus Gave Me A Song
Does Ernie still have it???  Listen to this L5 tune and see for yourself.

3. Working On A Building by Ronnie Booth from A Gospel Tribute To The King (2008)
Ronnie Booth is without a doubt one of the best singers in SG.  He doesn’t have to pay tribute to the king to prove that, but this entire project is terrific.

4. He Still Speaks by Ponder, Sykes & Wright from Ponder, Sykes, & Wright (1998)
Why did these guys stop recording together?  Hard to beat this trio’s harmony.

5. I Love To Call His Name by The Nelons from A Promised Reunion (1994)
The late Rex Nelon takes the lead on this classic tune from this rare project from The Nelons.

Today’s Music Playlist :: 8/26/09

1. Cheer The Weary Traveler (The Kingsmen from Missing People) – This is a new recording of the old convention song.  The Kingsmen keep their roots, as evidenced here, while also branching out a little farther on their new release from Horizon Records.

2. He Will Remember Me (Archie Watkins from Pouring Out Blessings) – This Lance Carpenter tune from Archie Watkins is his first solo release since retiring from The Inspirations.

3. I Heard About A Stone (Kevin Spencer Family from Some Dawning) – This is a Southern Gospel classic from the Kevin Spencer Family.  This was one of the family’s biggest songs.

4. Roll Back River Jordan (Mark Trammell Trio from Love To Tell The Story) – From the debut project of the group, this was one of my favorites from the album.  It was also the very first song that I heard live from the group at one of their debut concerts.  It’s a good one.

5. Some Of These Days (Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver from Gospel Parade) – Barry Scott shows his piano prowess on this “Bluegrass” tune.  This entire album is a gem, but this song really stands out on the project.

6. This World Is Not My Home (Daybreak Quartet from Hymns) – Another song with great piano accompaniment.   With reviews of the group here, here & here, I felt there was nothing left to say in a review.  It’s a great project from an up and coming group.

Today Music Playlist (7/22/09)

1. Leave Your Sorrows And Come Alongby The Kingsmen
I love this old song from the “Red back” hymnal.  This song was recorded on The Kingsmen’s Stand Up At Opryland Live project in 1986.  I particularly enjoy the harmony solos on the song.

2. “The Son Came Down” by The Inspirations
This song is the brand new single from the Inspirations new project by the same name.  David Ragan (Lead) and Dallas Rogers (Tenor) make their debut with the group on this project and they do not disappoint!

3. “I Bowed On My Knees And Cried Holy” by Cody Shuler & Pine Mountain Railroad
I just had to share this song with you all because it is the most unique version of the song that I have ever heard.  The song is on the groups 2008, Pickin’, Praisin’ & Singin’, project, which I believe was their first all gospel release.

4. “Oh What A City” by Heirline
Adam Elrod of HisSong is featured on this song recorded with his tenure with Heirline.  I love this song from the groups The Sky’s The Limit project and I thought you might as well.

5. “He’s A Personal Savior” by Gold City
This song is from one of the first iterations of Gold City and comes from their 1981 Sing Golden Nuggets album.  Group personnel at the time was Bob Oliver (tenor), Jerry Ritchie (lead), Ken Trussell (baritone), Tim Riley (bass), John Reinhardt Jr (piano), Larry Goddard (bass guitar/piano), David Holloway (steel) and Wayne Hussey (drums).

6. “Nothing Can Hold Me Here” by The Rarely Herd
I love this bluegrass tune.  It’s from the groups 1997 project, What About Him.

Enjoy!!!

Today’s Music (7/14/09)

1. Moving Out Of Here (Crossmen Quartet) – This is the same song released early in the year by The Skyline Boys.  The Crossmen originally recorded this song on their New Ground project from @ 1995.  They were also part of The Crossroads family on the SonLite label.

2. You Can Have A Song (Greater Vision) – This is the debut song on the debut album of a debut group from 1991.  This was the first song on Greater Vision’s very first recording by the same name.  Thought you’d like to hear it!

3. Yes, He Can (Phillips Family) – Stephen Phillips penned this song on The Phillips Family’s new project This Same Jesus.  Stephen wrote all 10 tracks on their new release.  Look for a review on it soon.

4. I Remember The Day (The Perrys) – This song is a classic from their God’s Little People project.  The Perrys were awesome here in 1989 and they are still awesome today!

5. I Just Gotta Praise The Lord (Dixie Melody Boys) – This tune features McCray Dove while he was still with the DMBs.  Rodney Griffin was still with the group as well.  This song is from their 1992 Gonna Praise The Lord Live project.

Today’s Music Playlist (7/1/09)

1. It’ll Be Joy (Poet Voices)
This song features Mike Allen on the bass while he was still with the group.  The song was recorded on Poet Voices’ project, Love’s Sweet Story IV, from 1996

2. I Can’t Even Walk (Promise)
This Southern Gospel classic features Larry Spadden of Promise.  This is one of the best versions of the song that I have heard.  It is from Promise’s new project, Some Old, Some New & Some We Just Wanted To Do, Vol. 2.

3. If I Could Telephone Heaven (Arthur Rice)
I couldn’t help but include this on this round of music.  Arthur Rice sang this demo for a Singing News Accompaniment Track.  The music is taken directly from The Primitive Quartet’s recording of the song on their Mountain Memories project, released in 2000.  Arthur does the vocals on all parts of this song and it is awesome to hear him in a bluegrass tune!  The demo is available direct from Crossroads Music for $.99.

4. Three Rugged Crosses (Freemans)
This tune is from the request lines.  Someone wanted to hear this song, so here it is.  Great tune from the Freemans’ Eyes On The Prize project, released in 1997.

Today’s Music Playlist (6/18/09)

1. Now I Am On My Way To Heavenby The Kingdom Heirs
I posted this song simply because it is one of my favorite songs of all time.  I love the harmonies, the lyrics and the music.  Squire Parsons outdid himself with this one.  This was originally recorded on their Gonna Keep Telling project from 2002.

2. “Send An Angel By My Way” by The Benton Family
This is from a local group out of Eastern Tennessee and was recorded on their 1982 project Just Passing Thru. I pulled this from an old LP I had and have really enjoyed their sound….kinda Hinson-like to me.

3. “The Dooright Family” by Ray Stevens
I heard this song last night while working and had to stop and just laugh for a while.  This is a pretty much unknown song from Ray about a traveling Gospel group.  I pulled this song from Ray’s Collector’s Series album, recorded in 1985.

Enjoy!!!
